Coil refractory
The induction coil of the crucible furnaces is protected by coil refractory. The contact surface with the liquid metal is formed by a layer of refractory lining, which is installed on the coil grouting by means of a vibrating device. The sliding surface between the grouting and the former is provided by a layer of mica paper, which ensures easy extrusion of the former after the campaign.
The refractory grouting protects the coil from the liquid metal itself in case of penetration of the working lining. It provides support to the coil against mechanical stress during furnace filling, isolates the coil from dust and metal splashes. Coil vibrations more than 500 Hz, material expansion, thermal shock and mechanical forces during extrusion of the former lead to deformation and the formation of former cracks.
Removing the grouting
At BV COILS, trained technicians will suggest a method of removing the grouting based on its grit, hardness and damage condition. It is always necessary to proceed in such a way that the coil profile is not damaged in any way. Before the actual start of the operation, the coil is pressurized with water to 6 to 8 Bar depending on the size of the copper profile cross-section and the mechanical damage. After removal of the refractory grouting, the coil surface must be thoroughly cleaned both mechanically and chemically. Gentle sandblasting and washing of the coil will ensure complete cleanliness in the full coil profile.
The next step is to determine the extent of the damage to the coil and define the repair method.
